RER Resting Energy Requirements

This is why our feeding guide* is based on a “normal” amount of food required considering factors like activity, exercise and a dog’s general movements and behaviours.

A large number of other brands feeding guides are based on (RER) Resting Energy Requirements!
RER is a guide based on a dog’s calorie needs at rest without considering other factors. We feel it is essential to take note of the calorie intake per 100gm to get a more even and consistent comparison across food brands.
To calculate your dogs (RER) firstly you will need to weigh your dog on some accurate scales either at home or a vet and multiply that weight in kilograms by 30, then add 70 formula: (Dog Weight (kg) x 30 + 70). The result is your average calorie intake when your dog is in a rested state.

Keep in mind that calorie intake can vary and there can be many other factors to consider, such as a dog's age, pregnancy, feeding puppies, medical conditions, surgery/traumas.

When you suggest the amount of food a customers pet needs it is worth checking if the feeding guides are calculated for (RER) or like our XP3020 formula has thoughtfully taken into account your dog’s natural behaviours throughout the day into the general feeding guide.
